Jason & Shericka's Downtown Miami Wedding at SLS Brickell

A Downtown Miami Wedding at SLS Brickell
Jason and Shericka Robinson were married on October 9, 2022, at SLS Brickell, a high-rise hotel and residences overlooking Miami's Brickell skyline. Unlike a garden or waterfront venue, SLS Brickell brings a sleek, urban backdrop to a wedding day, with floor-to-ceiling glass, sweeping city views, and a modern design sensibility that photographs completely differently than a traditional South Florida wedding venue. Sitting right in the heart of Miami's financial district, the property gives couples access to skyline views most venues simply can't offer, and for couples who want their wedding to feel unmistakably Miami, it's hard to beat. Jason and Shericka's day made full use of that setting, from portraits against the glass towers to a reception that felt like a genuine celebration of the city itself.

A Well-Coordinated Day
Jason and Shericka's wedding came together with Vanessa Hayward Events handling coordination, and it showed in how smoothly the day moved from one segment to the next. A well-run timeline is easy to take for granted until you've shot a wedding without one, and having an experienced planner in the room meant the entire team could stay focused on capturing the day instead of managing logistics behind the scenes. From vendor arrivals to the transition between ceremony and reception, everything ran on schedule, which gave us more room to slow down and find the genuine, unscripted moments that make a wedding gallery feel personal rather than generic.

Florals with a View
Tropic All Blooms n' More handled the florals for the day, bringing arrangements that held their own against SLS Brickell's dramatic city backdrop without competing with it. Working in a high-rise venue means florals have to be considered alongside a lot of reflective glass and skyline views, and the team struck a good balance between softening the space with warm, natural texture and letting the architecture do some of the visual work. The result was a reception space that felt polished and intentional, tying the couple's personal style into a venue that could easily feel cold or corporate without the right design touch.
The Reception
DJ Arson kept the reception energy high from the opening entrance through the last song of the night, reading the room well in a venue where the vibe leans more upscale-lounge than traditional ballroom. The elevated, modern feel of SLS Brickell lent itself to a reception that felt more like a stylish city celebration than a typical wedding reception, and the dance floor stayed full because of it. Guests moved easily between the lounge-style seating areas and the dance floor throughout the night, and the energy never really dipped from the first dance to the final song.

Portraits Against the Skyline
One of the biggest advantages of shooting at SLS Brickell is the sheer variety of backdrops available within a single property — floor-to-ceiling windows, reflective marble interiors, and rooftop-adjacent views of the Miami skyline all within a short walk of each other. We used that variety throughout the day, moving between interior shots that leaned into the venue's modern architecture and portraits that put the skyline itself front and center. It's a different kind of photography challenge than a garden or beach wedding, and one we genuinely enjoy for the creative range it opens up.
Vendor Team
Jason and Shericka's day came together with Vanessa Hayward Events on planning, Tropic All Blooms n' More on florals, and DJ Arson on entertainment, with our own John Fusco behind the camera for the day. Each vendor brought a level of professionalism that made the day run smoothly from start to finish, and it's a lineup we'd happily recommend again for any couple considering a downtown Miami, high-rise wedding at a venue like SLS Brickell.

Why We Love Shooting at SLS Brickell
SLS Brickell offers something a lot of South Florida wedding venues can't: a genuinely urban, skyline-driven backdrop right in the heart of Miami's financial district. For couples drawn to a modern aesthetic over a garden or beachfront look, it's one of the more distinctive venues we shoot at, and Jason and Shericka's wedding is a good example of what a day there can look like from start to finish. If a downtown Miami wedding with a skyline backdrop is part of your vision, SLS Brickell is a venue well worth considering.
